On to the Next Project
Quote from rvrrun on June 16, 2020, 12:14 amToday I got the 8 speed hub in and am waiting for the shifter to get it working. The motor make a ton of torque and is only held in place by a large serrated nut. I thought it be better to make cradle for the motor to lie on and make that nuts life easier. I’ll get out the tig tomorrow and weld it up. Then I’ll make a few gussets for it. I also cut off the coaster brake bracket and the tube that ran under the “fuel” tank. I used a piece of that tube for the torque rest and might use the rest to hide the wires going up to the tank.

Quote from rvrrun on June 18, 2020, 11:07 pmI bought a twist shifter because I thought it looked less like a bike part. Unfortunately, the one I should have used came with a cable adapter so I had to machine one. So that has the 8 speed all finished and I moved on to welding the motor support and installing the tank.

Quote from rvrrun on July 4, 2020, 1:26 amNothing exciting right now. I had to wait for the hoops to get here from Germany then back from powder coat (my over is too small for them) and now two weeks for them to get laced. I’ve been doing lots of little things like the light switch, battery mounting and cable routing. Basically, disassemble, drill a hole, reassemble and repeat a hundred times. Once the wheels are back, I can fab a speed sensor bracket and get the frame powder coated. It will be downhill fast once that’s done.

Quote from rvrrun on July 4, 2020, 5:29 pmThe powder coater was sitting on his ass when I got there and was grateful for the work, they had them done in a few hours. With the lockdown, bicycling is huge. I think that’s why the bike shop is back logged.

Quote from rvrrun on July 20, 2020, 10:36 pmNothing happened last week since we were at the lake, but the rear wheel was finished today. They’re waiting on spokes for the front, but the rear is needed to do the chain, chain guard, fender, speed sensor and other little things in the back. I’ll get as much of that finished as I can and then it’s just waiting on the brakes to be delivered.

Quote from rvrrun on July 21, 2020, 5:31 pmI’m making this one for me. I doubt anyone would pay to have one made. The parts will be about $3k, but the pre-built bike it’s based on (Ruffian e-bike) is over $6k.
I could slash the parts cost with a smaller motor/battery, different brakes, single speed hub and other odds and ends.
