These are the last two little pieces to machine. They stand the tank off from the frame. I made one a while back using a hole saw for the frame profile and it came out crappy. This time I used a 1” end mill to hog most of it out and finished to size with a boring bar that was just delivered.

The due date for the brakes has come and gone, those parts are holding everything up.

I picked up the front wheel today, but the fork down tubes and some other parts are at the chrome shop having the chrome removed (powder coat doesn’t adhere well to chrome). So I can’t put those parts together and go for a test ride. I still don’t have the brakes but I want to sit on it and pedal it before everything goes to powder coat. I made a bracket to mount the chain idler to the frame and was able to spin the rear wheel from the crank for the first time.  I also got the speed sensor attached to the chain guard (I wanted it hidden) only to find a major flaw in my plan. Everytime the wheel mounted magnet passed the chain, it would pull the chain into the fender. Oh well, I have a plan for mounting it on the opposite side, it won’t look as nice but it will keep the chain from killing the fender. It might not have been a problem if I had a single speed rear hub instead of the igh, as the igh moves the rear sprocket closer to the bikes centerline. I also machined a quick spacer for the front of the tank that resembles the two on top.

I’m still waiting for parts so it was just some unexciting busy work this week. Welding, grinding and I made a tube To hide the wiring from the motor to the tank. Once the brakes get here, it should be off to powder coat pretty quick.

I went to the shop to change the oil in the truck and the chrome guy showed up with my parts de-chromed. I put it all together real quick and went for my first ride. The front tire hits the fender brackets, but other than that it rode perfectly. The brakes won’t be here until the first of the month so I kept it to pedal power only.

The seat needed to be moved forward on the pedestal to be comfortable. This stuck the taillight way behind the seat and looked like crap so I cut the und off, turned it down in the lathe and welded the end back in flush. It looks a ton better, but nobody taller than me can ride it which isn’t a big deal. The brakes were delivered while we were at the lake and I got the front one on and working. Luckily the adapters didn’t need any machining or welding and everything bolted up pretty easy. I need to order a longer hose for the rear brake, but I knew that. I started routing lines/cables but it’s a pain working on it with just the kickstand holding it. I’m going to take it to work and make a stand that will hold it upright by the rear axle and lower part of the frame. This will get powder coated a serve as the display stand when the bike is finished. It’s getting so heavy, I like that better than relying on the kick stand.

I love the little four piston calipers, I’m going to use that yellow as a pinstripe/hilight color against the dark grey/Black.

I took it to work today and made a quick stand out of some scrap.

It’s alive! It’s a hot and stupid humid here so a powered ride felt great with the wind in my hair. I tied up a bunch of little loose ends on it, stuck the battery in and it performs flawlessly. I was expecting some chain slap and slip but it was smooth and silent. The brake cut outs and rear brake are not functioning yet so I kept it short. Time for powder coat and final assembly.
